Training with Eastern Slopes

Eastern Slopes Cycling Training Centre is a cycling specific conditioning studio focused on the competitive cyclist, serious recreational cyclist, and endurance athlete looking to increase their speed and power on the bike as well as their handling skills and functional ability and strength. Whether your focus is road racing, off-road cycling or racing, triathlon, or simply riding your bike to enjoy the moment and the road less travelled, the Power @ the Pedal program is designed to address your training requirements and their particular specificity.

As a competitive cyclist, triathlete, duathlete or XTerra racer Eastern Slopes offers power based cycling training and strength and conditioning development for teams and individual athletes. We are happy to offer fitness testing and group or semi private CompuTrainer™ training sessions tailored to each athletes goals and current level of fitness. Whether you are just starting out in the sport or a seasoned veteran, group cycling workouts offered during the winter will help break up the monotony of indoor training on your own and provide you with the added motivation of a coach. Both the Computrainer power based group workouts will take place at the Eastern Slopes facility in Walnut Creek.

What is the Power @ the Pedal program?

Power @ the Pedal is a coached power based bike training program that follows a periodized training plan that contains traininng blocks of 12 weeks from October to December, January to March over the winter and spring. Each 12 week training block is designed to follow a periodized structure so that the correct training facets are being trained at the right time to enable the athlete to plan, prepare and perform during their competition period. For example, the October to December 12 week block will concentrate on "Base" building and aerobic endurance development. This fitness is carried into the so-called "Build" period from January to April and depending upon your goals, training will continue into the "Competition" period May to September. You can sign up for any 12 week block or devise a custom training calendar based on your desired training schedule.

These group individualized bike workouts will allow you to become a stronger rider and a more efficient cyclist. It won’t take long to see the benefits of the great features offered by the Computrainer system. Riding on the Computrainer will take the monotony out of riding indoors and provide new levels of motivation by being able to ride an actual race course, a local ride or a stage of a big Pro race.

In race video technology combined with the CompuTrainer® with tools such as the Ergvideo series and the Interactive Real Bike Course Video series, provides a dimension to the training regime which can help prepare, or at the very least, fill in some holes in the athlete's event data and mental preparation. In Computraiiner Multirider, such as that offered by the Eastern Slopes Power @ the Pedal program, everyone rides at their own level, and you always feel like the hero in the action! It's great for athletic couples who want to train together, but get separated easily on the road. As you gain fitness, your power threshold-level increases and is set higher to get exactly the right workout! ErgVideo even has an awesome and entertaining way to test your fitness as you progress! In addition, power based tests and performance measurement can be conducted at any time throughout your indoor season using these same tools.

Through on site coaching and detailed feedback through the Eastern Slopes Web site each athlete is able to complete the most individualized and qualitative workouts on a weekly basis. Workouts will be designed based on your own training plan and personalized testing. Athletes can ride 1, 2 or more times per week. Refer to the Power @ the Pedal schedule for class availibility and times. If the athlete does not ride all training sessions at Eastern Slopes they will be provided with a ride schedule for additional weekly sessions at home to complete on their own trainer or even while they are on vacation (if riding fits in. . .yeah of course!).
